Retune
Retune 2 · Coming soon New · Retune 2

Your instruments. Your tunings. Ready when you are.

A tuner organized around the tuning you mean to play. Choose a built-in tuning or create your own for guitar, bass and ukulele. Play a string and Retune finds the target, then guides it cleanly into tune.

Retune 2 is on the way. The tuner is free on the App Store today, and this update lands as a free download for everyone.

01 Choose. Play. Tune.

Start with the instrument and tuning, not a stray note.

Most tuners begin with whatever pitch they hear. Retune begins with your choice: pick an instrument, pick a tuning, and it already knows the six (or four, or seven) notes you are aiming for. Try it below.

Step 1  Choose an instrument

Step 2  Choose a tuning

A preview of the interface. In the app, the microphone does the listening: play a string and the needle moves in real time.

02 Custom tunings
The Tunings screen showing My Tunings: a saved Open C tuning (C2 G2 C3 G3 C4 E4) and a Drop A tuning for 7-string guitar.

Your tuning does not need to be on someone else's list.

If the tuning you play isn't built in, build it once and keep it. Pick the instrument, set the target note for each string, name it, and it's there in the Tunings tab from then on.

1
Pick an instrument and string count
Guitar (6 or 7-string), bass, or ukulele. The editor lays out the right number of strings.
2
Set each string's target note
Step any string up or down. Names update as you go, so you're setting notes, not numbers.
3
Name it, save it, return in a tap
Edit, duplicate, reorder or delete your tunings any time. Example — Baritone Open C: C G C G C E.
Retune Pro Custom tunings are part of a one-time unlock. No subscription.
03 More than guitar

One tuner for the instruments on the wall.

Retune 2 tunes four instruments through the same clean interface. Each starts from its standard tuning; custom tunings extend any of them.

Guitar

6-string
E2A2D3G3B3E4

Nine tunings built in, from Standard to DADGAD. Free.

Guitar

7-string

Bass

4-string
E1A1D2G2

Low fundamentals tracked cleanly, down to E1.

Ukulele

4-string
G4C4E4A4

Standard gCEA tuning, with the high g string first.

Retune Pro Bass, ukulele and 7-string are part of the one-time unlock. Guitar is free.
04 The tuner

It locks onto the string you mean, and holds it.

Because Retune knows the tuning, it knows the targets. Play any string and it picks the nearest one in your tuning, then stays there while you turn the peg, instead of flickering between notes as you close in.

♭♯
Flat, approaching, in tune
A clean cents meter shows how far sharp or flat you are. Center means within five cents of the target.
A short haptic when it lands
The moment a string reaches tune, a quiet buzz and a soft chime tell you, so you can keep your eyes on the fretboard.
Hz
Chromatic mode and A4 calibration
Switch to a straight chromatic tuner any time, or set the reference from 415 to 466 Hz to match an ensemble. Default is 440.
The tuner in Drop D. The low D2 string is selected and reads 9 cents flat, with an orange needle just left of center.
05 Private, fast, offline

Nothing between you and the tuner.

No sign-in, no setup, no connection. Retune analyzes the sound on your device and opens straight to the tuner, so it works in a practice room, a green room, or a basement with no signal.

On device

Pitch is detected on your iPhone as you play. Audio is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.

No account

Nothing to create, nothing to sign into. The tuner is the first thing you see.

No ads or tracking

No advertising, no analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers of any kind.

Works offline

Everything runs without a network. Airplane mode makes no difference to the tuner.

06 Built-in tunings

Nine guitar tunings, ready before you ask.

The tunings alt-tuning players reach for most, set up and one tap away. Anything else you play, you save as a custom tuning.

07 What's new in Retune 2

The preset tuner grew up.

Retune started as a guitar tuner built around presets. Version 2 keeps that idea and opens it up: your own tunings, more instruments, and a metronome to practice against, all in the same restrained interface.

Retune Pro Custom tunings, extra instruments and the metronome unlock together, once. No subscription. The guitar tuner stays free.

The new metronome: a steady audio-clock click, tap tempo, and time signatures from 2/4 to 7/8.
